Internships at our Operating Center

Our summer internship program is a great way for you to learn about Random House and the publishing business, and for us to learn more about you. We offer internships at our headquarters in New York and in our Operations center near Baltimore, Maryland. Here's what some of our recent interns have to say about their Westminster experiences:

"There are so many interesting projects and opportunities to be involved. I've come to appreciate the inter-relatedness of everything—every step in the process affects every other—and that has helped me to grow a little faster."

"As an engineering student, I worked on a number of process improvement projects. I learned every procedure and then helped to train others. My managers were good mentors and very supportive. They really value a fresh mind—someone coming in to look at things in a new way."

"I spent my first summer in the warehouse, and in the following summers worked with a business manager on financial analysis—comparing budgets, tracking expenses, researching inventory discrepancies, etc."
We actively recruit bright, talented candidates who are analytical, customer focused and enthusiastic about process improvement, to join us for one or more summers.

As an intern, you will work on a variety of project-based initiatives focused on particular areas of our business where you may have an interest. These areas include distribution operations, engineering services, information technology, inventory management, customer service, data control, financial operations and transportation. These exciting internships will allow you the opportunity to complement your education with real life work situations and experiences. Some of the projects completed by recent interns include: replacing OCR wands with bar code readers; evaluating and making recommendations for implementing productivity improvements in various departments; developing an activity-based costing model and procedures to reduce the incidence of damaged books; working with inventory management to release customer orders to the warehouse floor for special handling and packaging; assisting in building new applications; and managing existing application software. Interns may also have the opportunity to spend time working as a front-line supervisor.
