First and foremost, we look for college graduates with a strong interest in book publishing. Individuals must be able to take initiative, be team players and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Prior internships or other work experiences, especially in book publishing, are a plus. We also look for individuals who have distinguished themselves with a strong academic record and involvement in extracurricular activities.
Random House does on-campus and consortium recruiting, so it's advantageous if you find an opportunity to meet with us at a scheduled campus event. Your school's Career Services/Placement Office can tell you if a Random House campus recruiter is scheduled to visit your campus or consortium. However, if we cannot meet personally you can always apply directly to Random House through our careers site.
Due to the volume of resumes we receive, we encourage you to apply online. Once you have completed the online application, you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt.
All of our positions are for immediate hire. The best time to start perusing the website is in April and then start applying a few weeks before you are available to start working.
If your background matches the criteria of the Associates program, you will be contacted in the spring to interview with us. If you are no longer under consideration, you will be notified. However, we still encourage you to continue to look for other entry level opportunities on our website.
You must apply for a particular position since we do not accept resumes that are not attached to a specific posting. However if you don't find a position of interest at that time, you can set up a Personal Career Planner (PCP) account and Random House will notify you when a job that fits your interests, experience and background appears.
Due to the large volume of submissions, you will get an automatic response letting you know that your resume has successfully been received. Once it is submitted online, your resume will then be reviewed . If there is a match in terms of the specifications and qualifications required, you will be contacted by a representative of the Human Resources department. If you are not selected to interview for the opening to which you applied, you will need to continue to check the website and apply for new positions of interest.
You need to reach out to the specific group that you are interested in freelancing with. The Human Resources department does not accept resumes for freelance assignments. You must go through the imprint/publishing group in which you are interested .
The Human Resources Department does not coordinate freelance opportunities for the various publishing groups. The publishing groups handle that directly. Therefore, please visit the individual groups’ websites to learn more about how to go about obtaining freelance opportunities.
We generally do not accept unsolicited demo tapes. It is best to seek representation from a talent agency. However, you may mail your tape to the attention of the “Audio Book Production Staff” at Random House.
