The Random House Group is the largest general book publishing company in the UK. The group is based in London with subsidiary companies in Australia, India, New Zealand and South Africa. 

The Random House Group is a federation of 31 diverse publishing imprints under four autonomous divisions that among them publish 1,500 new books every year. Each imprint is highly individual with its own culture, values, and commitment to publishing the best books in its particular area. Novelists published by the Group include Martin Amis, Jilly Cooper, J M Coetzee, Sebastian Faulks, John Grisham, Robert Harris, Joanne Harris, Ian McEwan, Terry Pratchett, Kathy Reichs, Ruth Rendell, Salman Rushdie, Joanna Trollope and Irvine Welsh. 

In nonfiction, the lists range from broad general nonfiction to a number of specialist nonfiction categories such as cookery, gardening (including the renowned Expert Books series and Eden Project Books), and travel (including Fodor's Guides and a new partnership with Time Out and business books). Notable authors of nonfiction include Bill Bryson, Nigella Lawson, and David Starkey. The Group's classic backlist of over 6,000 titles includes the works of Ernest Hemingway, Graham Greene, Iris Murdoch, Virginia Woolf and Anthony Powell amongst others.

Random House Children's Books publishes many bestselling children's writers, including Anthony Brown, Malorie Blackman, Roald Dahl, Phillip Pullman, Jacqueline Wilson, and all three of the Children's Laureates: Quentin Blake, Anne Fine and Michael Morpurgo. 

In the UK, the Random House Group runs a distribution business that services its own imprints as well as 50 other UK publishers. The Random House Group has three distribution sites, at Grantham, Wellingborough and Frating where the warehouse, built in 1998, is the largest purpose-built book distribution center in the UK.

The Random House Group is an independently managed subsidiary of Random House, Inc. in the U.S., the trade book publishing division of Bertelsmann AG, one of the world's largest and most diversified integrated media companies.
